Tayan is a partner at BakerHostetler and specializes in Intellectual Property and Technology counselling and transactions, with an emphasis on patent procurement, asset monetization strategies, and risk management in view of third party claims. He has strong technical and educational experience in both electrical and chemical engineering.

Tayan’s experience over the last 15 years spans a vast array of technologies including wireless and optical communications, software, consumer electronics, heavy machinery, semiconductors and chemical/material processing. As a former U.S. patent examiner, Tayan is skilled at helping clients navigate patent cases through the USPTO’s complex ecosystem.

He has successfully employed post-grant vehicles such as Reissue, Reexamination, and Supplemental Examination to strengthen his clients’ portfolios in anticipation of licensing and assertion campaigns. His team routinely monitor competitive IP assets and conduct due diligence to help clients implement effective risk management strategies, including contentious and non-contentious legal action, to protect commercial freedom to operate.
